Device-Level Authentication

The security of your accountholders’ personal and banking information has always been our top priority. For years, we’ve relied on a PIN code in Banno Mobile as an extra layer of protection for accessing financial data. However, device security has advanced significantly in recent years. Modern phones and tablets now feature dedicated security chips that encrypt and store sensitive data.

To leverage these improvements and enable future enhancements, we are updating our Android and iOS applications in the first release of 2026 (Banno Mobile 3.31) to remove the manual PIN entry screen.

In its place, we will rely exclusively on device-level authentication. Biometric methods like fingerprint or face recognition will be the default, with the device passcode serving as a fallback. Since many customers use this as an option to bypass manual PIN entry today, the transition should be seamless for them.

End users who have opted out of device-level security will be required to log in after five minutes of inactivity. We will also display a message encouraging the setup of device-level authentication, if the end user hasn’t done so yet.
