Automatic passkey creation

Passkeys are among the most secure multi-factor authentication (MFA) methods for protecting users from malicious actors; therefore, we are further refining the Banno user experience to ensure broader education and adoption of passkey functionality.

Coming relatively soon, we’re implementing Conditional Create for consumer users of Banno Online who also have credentials saved in a password manager. Once released, when such users successfully log in again, the Conditional Create feature will automatically create a passkey on their behalf – without requiring additional work from the user!

Once the end user’s passkey is created in the browser, that passkey will be available for use anywhere that Banno Online supports passkey authentication, including initial login, two-factor authentication (2FA), high-risk actions (HRA), and account recovery.

This feature is still in the ideation phase, so be on the lookout in future Statements and meetups for more information as the project progresses. For a refresher on passkey functionality on Banno, check out our Knowledge Base doc and our more-detailed passkey guide on the For Clients Portal.

For more insights on Conditional Create, see this post on Google’s Chrome Developers site.
